Xerox on hakenut patenttia (2015) ja saanut sen omalle lohkoketjutekniikalleen (2017)
"Leading printing and record-keeping company Xerox has obtained a patent on its new product, a blockchain solution that creates proofs for different data types.
According to the patent, Xerox solution is called Proof of Existence. It consists of a data processing algorithm and several blocks:
  • data collection (gathers data from the block needed for the document approval);
  • registration (saves proofs of the document existence).
The patent had been filed by Xerox in 2015 although no blockchain solutions were mentioned.

Sovelluksen mahdollisina asiakkaina Xerox nimeää alueelliset sairaalat ja monikansalliset yritykset.
"As for who might use the proposed system, Xerox suggests "regional hospital systems or multi-national corporations" might find it applicable to their needs."
Eräs sovelluksista esittää:
"In one embodiment, the auditing system uses an encryption process, such as public key cryptography, to sign all record changes in an electronic document (with the private half of a key pair) and to verify that records have not been altered (with the public half of the key pair). This is important in ensuring the security of record changes before they are fixed in the blockchain. The security of the disclosed system and method may improve as the system becomes larger."

"U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published a new patent filed by Xerox in which it outlines a method by which a blockchain (either a public option or a permissioned alternative) could be used to tie types of data (naming images and video as examples) to a certain period in time."

"After detailing the use of the bitcoin blockchain for time-stamping purposes – mentioning the Proof of Existence project by name, the application goes on to state:"
"According to an aspect of the embodiments of the present invention, there is provided an information processing apparatus comprising: an acquisition unit that acquires feature information of a latest block in a block chain when target data is generated; and a registration unit that registers proof information indicating that the generated target data is correlated with the feature information acquired by the acquisition unit when the target data is generated to a time proof service."

"As previously reported by CoinDesk, Xerox has already submitted at least two other blockchain-related patents, both of which hinted at the use of the tech for a record-keeping system."

"The documents also showed that the concepts filed by Xerox propose a network of nodes that can create and update documentary records. All the nodes in the network can share their data using Blockchain technology."

"Adopting the Blockchain structure to electronic health records (EHRs) will help manage authentication, confidentiality, accountability and data sharing while allowing medical researchers to access insights into medical treatment – potentially revolutionising how data is gathered and accessed for research purposes."

Xerox näyttää panostavan erityisesti terveysalan toimintojen kehittämiseen.

“What is essential in today’s data-driven economy is how patients can benefit from a records management system that provides a holistic and transparent picture of their medical history.
This proves critical in establishing trust, as patients that doubt the confidentiality of their records may abstain from full, honest disclosures or even avoid treatment."

Xerox ei ole yksin:
"Xerox is not alone in its efforts to procure the necessary patent with its Blockchain-related operations. In fact, various financial institutions have long been in the race to secure Blockchain-related patents including Bank of America and Goldman Sachs."

Rajatut sovellukset kuulostavat mielekkäiltä.
