IoT on kehittymässä nopeasti johtuen suotuisasta kustannuskehityksestä. Vaikka kaikilla sovellusaloilla on omat piirteensä, ne näyttävät turvautuvan samanlaisiin ratkaisuihin: ketterä järjestelmäintegrointi ja kytkettävyys, tiedon keruu, analysointi sekä automaatio.
